Veterinary is a lucrative career in Arizona. Apart from being well paying, it is a highly satisfying job. Despite all these pros it is one of the most understaffed lines. Recently though, there has been a steady rise in the number of people seeking this training in colleges and universities. If you want to become a veterinary technician in Arizona you need to understand what is required of you in order to obtain an Arizona vet tech license.
Just like in any other field, there is an act that regulates the operations of vet techs in all of Arizona. Apart from vet tech licensing issues, the Arizona veterinary act also regulates issues such as prescriptions, dosages and etiquette in animal handling.
If you are an Arizona resident, you must have attained the age of 18 years before submitting an application for vet tech license. Unlike other states, Arizona laws require that you also submit a certificate of good moral character. If you do not have this, it may be a bit hard to convince the authorities to give you a practicing license. To become a professional vet tech in Arizona you need to go through vet tech training that imparts skills on animal health, disease diagnosis and treatment.
Arizona vet tech colleges have both diploma and degree programs for the veterinary course. With either qualification you are allowed to apply for a vet tech license in Arizona. The training must however be taken in an accredited institution. Students who are just through with college education and are still waiting for their degrees of diplomas can apply for certificate from the dean of the institution where they took their courses to show that they have successfully completed their training. They can then use such a certificate to apply for a vet tech license.
In Arizona there is a special clause that allows non residents who have the necessary academic qualifications to apply for a practicing vet tech license in the state. However the process of getting it is not smooth. The authorities require that you submit the original diploma or degree certificate from the college where you took your training plus two sworn affidavits from licensed practicing vet techs that must be of high moral character. You must also have references to the licensing bodies of your mother state as well as your certifications of vet tech practice from those state’s governing agencies.
